Self-Publishing Goals: Increase Your Income Streams

TGIF, WG2E-Land!!!

When I published my debut release – BOOTSCOOTIN’ BLAHNIKS – in August 2010, I only had two income streams.

I could get royalties from sales on Amazon US or from those on Smashwords (and at the time, Smashwords could get me to Barnes and Noble, Sony, and Smashwords itself). So, I would eventually have four income streams per book, once Smashwords got my book distributed, but we all know that takes awhile.

One of my self-publishing goals has always been to be available on as many channels as possible.

Why?

Because with each new income stream/distribution channel, you’ve got increased visibility and an increased chance to connect with new readers and that can lead to an increase in royalties.

Goal = Increase Income Streams

Here’s what achieving that goal has meant to me after two and half years of self-publishing:

August 2010 = 4 income streams

April 2013 = 896 income streams

How is this possible?

1. I’ve stayed away from Amazon’s KDP Select, meaning no exclusivity requirements. My ebooks are uploaded to all of the major platforms.

Here’s the breakdown (in the number of income streams per platform with 30 products available): Amazon 208, Apple 338, Kobo (via Smashwords) 52, Sony (via Smashwords) 52, Diesel (via Smashwords) 26, Baker & Taylor Blio (via Smashwords) 26, Kobo Writing Life 60, ACX/Audible (Audio Books) 56, Barnes & Noble (via Smashwords) 8, Barnes & Noble Pubit 44, Smashwords itself 26

2. I’ve gone from publishing one ebook to just releasing my 30th product (ebooks – both fiction and nonfiction – and audio books included).

3. Each platform is branching out around the globe, meaning I don’t just sell in Amazon US, for example. I sell in Amazon US, Amazon UK (United Kingdom), Amazon De (Germany), Amazon Fr (France), Amazon It (Italy), Amazon Es (Spain), Amazon Ca (Canada), and Amazon Br (Brazil).

4. Through Social Media sites – like Facebook, Twitter, Google+, blogs/grogs, websites and Pinterest – I’m connecting with peeps all over the world, and they’re buying my ebooks and listening to my audio books.

In units sold and dollars-and-cents, increasing income streams at this rate has allowed me to go from selling 27 books in my first month to now selling well over 5000 units each month. From making around $50 per month to now making between $5,000 and $14,000 per month. :-)

How ’bout you, WG2E-Land? How many income streams do you currently have going? Count ‘em, share with us and celebrate your potential to increase your readers and income! Doesn’t it feel sooo damn good to have this kind of potential at your fingertips?!
